Japanese multi-artist Ryoji Ikeda not only creates installations for exhibitions around the world but he is also a composer touring with a special audio-visual performance featuring live graphics.
The concert depicted below was quite an introvert experience as the artist was standing well disguised under his cap in darkness before a simple setup with a PC and a few audio devices. The sound didn’t resemble music in a normal context but was closer to what you can achieve with an advanced programming of sound generators. The images were live computer generated stroboscopic animations based on the potent sound track so the experience was a little hard to congest. The concert lasted only 45 minutes which is very short but long enough for the demanding content unless Mr. Ikeda finds more variations to his setlist.
The artistic touch is unique although Mr. Ikeda’s installation works are more recommendable and sophisticated as illustrated in these examples.
